Milenge Milenge (PG)
Dir: Satish Kaushik, 2010, India, 117 mins, Hindi with subtitles
Producer: Boney Kapoor
Cast: Shahid Kapur, Kareena Kapoor, Kiron Kher, Delnaaz Paul, Aarti Chabbia
After a prolonged delay- 6 years in fact, ‘Milenge Milenge’ finally was released to the masses this summer amid high expectations. After all, the film does pair up former real-life couple Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor and despite their acrimonious break up, fans were no doubt keen to see that magic again after the 2007 smash “Jab We Met.”
Priya Malhotra (Kapoor) is an orphan who dreams of settling down with the perfect man – someone who is honest and does not smoke or drink. She reluctantly agrees to meet best friend Honey’s (Paul) aunt – renowned tarot reader Sunita Rao (Kher) who tells her that she will meet the man of her dreams on the 7th day of the month in a foreign country. She meets prankster Immy (Kapur) in Bangkok, who despite having a weakness for those three vices, pretends to be her dream man. When Immy’s cover is blown, it is left to destiny to reunite them.
Despite producer Boney Kapoor hailing this as the romantic film of the year, it fails miserably. Instead, what we are subjected to is a poor rehash of the 2001 Hollywood hit ‘Serendipity.’
Satish Khausik’s direction is lukewarm and dated. The film was after all; completed in 2004 half a decade ago when Shahid Kapur was 4 films old and somehow, the film does not really fit into today’s market. The script falters towards the climax and lacks any form of impact.
Disappointingly, the chemistry between the leading pair is cold and distant and lacks that spark that was clearly evident in ‘Jab We Met.’ Both actors do not really surpass any form of expectation and their portrayal is unconvincing. Not much attention is given to the cinematography especially during the scenes in Bangkok which fails to connect with the story.
Perhaps, the only saving grace of the film is the reasonably sound music score by Himmesh Reshammiya
- Disappointing *
